Personal Statement:

I am 22 years old and am from Jacskonville. I have lived there my whole life in the same house until I moved to Gainesville when I graduated from highschool. My whole family pretty much lives in Jacksonville, so once I moved to Gainesville it was a pretty big change. I was used to having family around all the time, so here was a challenge.

Moving to Gainesville, like I said was a challenge, but I learned to adapt. Let me jump back a little. Highschool was a challenge  because school is not a cup of tea for me. I have had to work hard, it did't come natural like it does for some. My parents have helped me and I owe it to them. I had tutors after tutors helping me. My parents were determined I do well and they were there for me all the way. So, coming to Gainesville and being on my own, not being able to ask them for help was tough. But I learned very fast.

Coming to a new place and school was a huge change for me. I went to the same school for my whole life and had the same friends forever. Gainesville forced me to meet new people and learn a new way of living. I loved to go to the beach and swim in the pool as well as shop all the time with my friends. Gainesville doesn't have as much as Jacksonville does, but I learned to love it here and it is for sure considered a new home for me. Don't get me wrong, I do miss Jacksonville and I probably wouldn't live here if I didn't go to school here, but I do consider it a home.

Now as for my academic career and goals, I plan to get a Bachelors Degree in Sociology. I chose this direction because people in general interest me and I have always wanted to know more about them, for example different races and ethnic backgrounds. I like to interact with people and learn about the interesting lives people live. In the future I would love to work with little children in any way I can, maybe with school or as a counselor.
