Dear Administration,

I am writing to you on behalf of the incoming freshmen. I believe that the underage drinking policy in Gainesville should be enforced more so that they understand what could happen to them if they were to get caught. I think hiring somone from the police department and having one of them announce it at preview and making it a big deal would encourage freshmen to think twice before they went out and used a fake id. Telling them how the cops come through the bars randomly and check everyones id, would make them rethink being underaged and going out. Also telling them it will be on their record and if it is serious enough you might have to get a lawyer and tell your parents; this would not be a good idea since your just starting out at college. Another issue is open container and preview might want to also talk about that issue. Freshmen think they can walk around anywhere since they are in college and not get caught. Telling them they can just as well get arrested walking down the street with a drink say on game days as they can just being in a bar. Enforcing the laws about drinking to incoming freshmen is a good idea so they have the heads up about what's to come if they were to get caught. Also by having a police officer there talking about it and really being harsh would scare them and make them realize that it isn't a joke. I am a senor about to graduate and I wish I had heard what all could happen when I was a freshmen. I know you hear it here and there, but knowing facts would make it more real when being underaged and wanting to go out. Thank you for your concern.

Thank you,

Drayton Baker
